The Easy Way to add Exercise to your Day is to Add it to your Daily Activities
Do you ever feel frustrated because there just aren't enough hours in the day? How are you supposed to fit it all in? Let alone find time to be active.
Oftentimes, the weather isn't the best and you may not want to get outside. Sometimes, for me, it is an excuse because I just don't feel like leaving the house and I don't want to have to carve time out of my day for yet another thing
- exercise...
Well, I had a conversation with a friend of mine one day who is a Massage Therapist & Sports Trainer. We were talking about the best way to build muscle to avoid injury. It is so easy to get out of the habit of regular exercise for so many reasons.
The stronger your muscles are the more likely they are to handle movement better and keep your body stable. Think of your body as a bicycle. Better maintained, a bicycle can last a very long time and perform much better than a bicycle that's sat out in the rain, not being taken care of.
My friend was telling me - The easiest way to encourage people to get in the habit of exercising regularly is by showing them how to work exercises into the things they do every day.
That was like a light bulb moment for me!
Instead of bending over to pick something up - make a point of using good body mechanics to squat down. Maybe you squat down 5 times instead of once.
When in the kitchen, stop and do a set of push-ups off the kitchen counter while waiting for a timer to finish. So, essentially, you don't have to schedule time to work on building muscle if you're adding it into your day.
We put together a little video you might enjoy... Let me know what you think!
Running the vacuum, sweeping the kitchen, weeding the flower bed can be great exercise we all know of but, doing it while paying attention to good posture, engaging your core, adding a few extra steps or doing it with gusto are some ways you can add exercise to your everyday life. Sometimes I get up and run laps around my office (I know, I look silly but, Oh Well :) just enough to get my heart rate up for awhile. It feels good to get my blood pumping and I think it actually helps with my mental clarity. If you own a smart watch and receive reminders to get up and move, don't just turn them off and forget about them! They are there to help you feel your best. Maybe they'll help you by taking your mind for a break while trying to solve a complex problem at work. That mental clarity boost can go along way!
